Shingles Vaccination

If you’ve ever had chickenpox, you could get Shinges now.

The same virus that causes chickenpox stays in your body and can later resurface as Shingles — a painful, blistering rash. The main symptom is pain which can be quite severe. Other symptoms of shingles can include fever, headache, chills, and upset stomach. Very rarely, a shinges infection can lead to pneumonia, hearing problems, blindness, brain inflammation, or death. For about 1 person in 5 severe pain can continue even long after the rash clears up.

Shingles is far more common in people 50 years of age and older. It is also more common in people whose immune systems are weakened. At least 1 million people a year in the United States get shingles.

ZOSTAVAX vaccine helps prevent Shinges in adults 50 years of age or older.

ZOSTAVAX works by helping your immune system protect you from Shinges. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends appropriate adults 60 years of age and older be vaccinated to help prevent Shinges.

ZOSTAVAX is given as a single shot. ZOSTAVAX cannot be used to treat Shinges or the nerve pain that may follow Shingles once you have it.

At Arianna Medical Pharmacy we make it easy for you to get the ZOSTAVAX vaccine.

Flu Vaccination

The best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated each year.

Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body about two weeks after vaccination. These antibodies provide protection against infection with the viruses that are in the vaccine.
